Renowned filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has showered praise on actor Ranbir Kapoor, lauding his exceptional talent and attributing it to his deep-rooted interest and dedication to the craft of acting.
In a recent interview with Mashable India, Imtiaz highlighted that unlike many other actors, Ranbir doesn’t wait for the perfect script or character to showcase his talent. According to Imtiaz, Ranbir’s profound interest in acting is the very foundation of his remarkable talent.
“In Greek language, the word for talent and interest are the same. He has so much interest in this work that it has become the base of his talent. That is why he is so talented because he is actually interested,” Imtiaz remarked.
Imtiaz further emphasized that Ranbir Kapoor’s love for acting transcends the need for the ‘right script’.
“Even if you don’t make a film, just give him a scene, and he will keep acting. This means that he doesn’t need a reason to act. He doesn’t think that ‘if something good comes, then I will act.’ So I think that is interesting,” added the filmmaker, whose upcoming project is Amar Singh Chamkila.
The collaboration between Imtiaz Ali and Ranbir Kapoor began with the 2011 film Rockstar, where Ranbir portrayed the role of Janardhan aka Jordan. Interestingly, the first narration of the film happened with Ranbir narrating the story to Imtiaz.
Imtiaz shared an anecdote, saying, “He said, ‘Sir there is a story of yours I heard about from a friend. You wanted to make it with John (Abraham) at that time. This is the story.’ So actually the narration of the film happened with him telling me the story. When he was saying all this, I was looking at him and thinking, ‘If this guy does this film, it would be so nice.’ So I asked him ‘You like this? You want to do it?’”
Imtiaz also revealed that he used to discuss every draft and update with Ranbir because of the actor’s immense interest and involvement in the process.
Imtiaz Ali’s highly anticipated film, Amar Singh Chamkila, featuring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on April 12.
